Adeos -- a resource sharing multi-OS environment -- in this interview, Rick Lehrbaum speaks with Karim Yaghmour, the founder of Adeos, a new open source project to develop an "Adaptive Domain Environment for Operating Systems". The purpose of Adeos is to provide a flexible environment for sharing hardware resources among multiple operating systems, or among multiple instances of a single OS. According to Yaghmour, Adeos will support the kinds of dual-OS Linux environments that are today achieved using RTLinux or RTAI, but without making use of the technology that is the subject of Victor Yodaiken's RTLinux patent. story
Linux lookalike RTOS passes "Quake test" -- in this article, Rick Lehrbaum describes a demo he observed at LinuxWorld in New York, where LynuxWorks previewed a new capability of the company's proprietary real-time operating system (RTOS), LynxOS -- Linux "application binary interface" (ABI) compatibility. story
DSPs and Embedded Linux: a great combination -- this whitepaper by Phil Verghese, CTO of RidgeRun, takes a close look at the growing trend of combining Embedded Linux with digital signal processors (DSPs) in smart devices and embedded systems used in a wide range of consumer and commercial applications. story
An introduction to Waba -- an open source Java-like platform -- this whitepaper describes a new open source Java-like platform called
"Waba" that is currently being ported to Linux. The Waba VM is well
suited for use in Linux-based embedded and mobile devices, requiring
just 40KB on an M68K. story
The State of Embedded Linux -- this is the slide presentation given by Rick Lehrbaum at the recent Real-Time and Embedded Systems Forum held February 6, 2001 in San Jose, CA. Topics covered include . . .
- Why use Linux in Embedded Apps?
- Results of the Embedded Linux Market Survey
- A quick introduction to a dozen Linux-based "devices"
- Predictions on the growth Embedded Linux over the next few years
