*** TOP STORY: LINUS RELEASES LINUX 2.4 ***
"And oh, btw . . ." (2.4.0 kernel is out!) -- In a move unanimously hailed by the trade press and industry analysts as being a sure sign of incipient brain damage, Linus Torvalds (also known as the "father of Linux" or, more commonly, as "mush-for-brains") decided that enough is enough, and that things don't get better from having the same people test it over and over again. In short, 2.4.0 is out there. story
Other Linux 2.4 coverage . . .
- Linux 2.4 unmasked (including the embedded perspective) -- Jerry Epplin explains the "real" significance of the release of Linux kernel 2.4, provides some perspective on the new features contained in 2.4, and transports us into the not-too-distant future to see where Linux is most likely to be five years from now. (everywhere!) story
- ZDNet interviews Linus about his post-2.4 release celebration -- What's the father of Linux doing to celebrate the release of the gold code? Start with some beer and a long-delayed housewarming party. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley catches up with Linus Torvalds by email, to ask a few questions of "Mr. Linux" (sorry, Linus!) following the long-awaited release of 2.4.
story
- Wonderful World of Linux 2.4 -- Joe Pranevich has written the definitive exposition about what's new in Linux kernel 2.4. This 7,000+ word document contains detailed descriptions and assessments of all substantial changes relative to kernel 2.2. Read this highly technical article for "all the gory detail"! story
- Much ado about Linux 2.4 -- Anyone who has been closely following Linux knows the 2.4.0 announcement isn't really a big deal. This ZDNet column by Evan Leibovitch examines the significance of the latest major Linux release. story
- uClinux 2.4 kernel now available -- the release of uClinux 2.4 came immediately after the release of the Linux 2.4 kernel by Linus Torvalds. uClinux is available through GPL. story
