Linux-based killer robot at Battlebots? Not quite! -- LinuxDevices.com reports on Linux at the Battlebots competition in San Francisco this past weekend. Well, it turns out Linux didn't quite make it into battle :( story

Sharp selects Lineo's Embedix for new Zaurus Linux-PDA -- Lineo will supply the Linux operating system that will be used in Sharp's next generation Zaurus personal digital assistants. Lineo is holding a news conference to disclose further details of this arrangement on Friday, June 1. story

Sharp to demo Linux PDAs and launch developer program -- Sharp will demonstrate a prototype of the new Linux-based Zaurus PDA at next week's JavaOne conference in San Francisco. The company will also use the occasion of JavaOne to launch a developer community initiative in support if the device. story

Net2Phone adds Tux-tone dialing service -- Net2Phone announced the launch of a new service that runs on the company's Linux-based Aplio/RAVE Internet phones. (Net2Phone acquired Aplio last Summer.) story

Agenda begins delivering its VR3 Linux-PDAs (finally!) -- good news: Agenda's VR3 Linux-PDA has begun shipment. Here is a brief announcement on the subject. story

FSMLabs announces real-time and embedded Linux courses -- RTLinux specialist FSMLabs is now offering "custom designed" two-day, hands-on, on-site training classes, designed for groups of five or more students. The sessions will cover both real-time and embedded Linux technologies, and will include examples of real-world applications. story

FreeIO.org releases open PC/104 I/O board design -- FreeIO.org has released a new free hardware design under the GNU GPL license. "Grits" is a fully programmable I/O board for PC/104 based embedded systems. story

SMSC releases open source Linux Ethernet driver -- Standard Microsystems Corporation has released a new Linux driver for its LAN91C111 non-PCI 10/100 Mbps Single Chip Ethernet MAC+PHY Controller. The driver is released under the GNU GPL license. story

Motorola unveils lightweight GUI toolkit -- Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector announced availability of a graphical user interface (GUI) extension for Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) implementations. The LWT is an open standard and is available for free download. story

System-on-chip family gains BlueTooth technology -- Silicon Wave Inc. and Cirrus Logic Inc. announced a licensing agreement whereby BlueTooth wireless connectivity will be added to certain of Cirrus Logic's future Maverick system-on-chip processors. The scheme, which will utilize a second IC made by Silicon Wave, will be supported under Embedded Linux. story

LinuxWorld announces keynotes & feature presentations -- keynote and feature presentations have been announced for the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo being held this Summer in San Francisco. story

TUXIA opens another U.S. facility -- TUXIA announced the opening of a new office in Austin, TX. As a result, the company's U.S. staff has now grown to 18. story

Red Hat announces Linux 7.1 for Itanium -- the release is based on Linux kernel 2.4. It supports the very large address space of Itanium-based systems and scales efficiently to eight or more Itanium processors running as a single system image. story

Software for a diskless Linux Kiosk system -- an online article gives a detailed, step-by-step account of the software side of creating a diskless Kiosk system based on Linux, XFree86, GNOME, BusyBox, and other open source software. story

Embedded Linux sessions at Open Source Conference -- the O'Reilly Open Source Convention being held in San Diego, CA this July will have two interesting embedded Linux presentations: Creating a Development Environment for Embedded Linux; and Embedded Linux Case Study -- The Flying Penguin. story

Atlanta Linux Showcase moves to Oakland, CA -- the Linux conference/expo formerly known as the "Atlanta Linux Showcase" has moved out of Atlanta and changed its name to the "Annual Linux Showcase" (ALS). Interestingly, the topic of Embedded Linux Application Development and Deployment is first on the list of proposed sessions for this year's ALS, which will be held in November. story

India's sub-$200 "Simputer" is a Linux PDA -- according to an MSNBC news story, a non-profit group in India has created a simple, inexpensive, multilingual, Linux-based handheld computer aimed at bringing computing to Third World nations. story

IOGEAR boosts development of USB 2.0 support for Linux -- IOGEAR is working with the Linux USB project to help create an open source USB 2.0 driver for use with the Linux 2.2 and 2.4 kernels. story

Here they come -- TVs with embedded Linux! -- Princeton Graphic Systems has begun shipping what they claim is the world's first TV to come with a built-in Internet Appliance subsystem (and it's based on Linux). story

FSM Labs forms Korean RTLinux alliance -- FSM Labs and AstonLinux have announced plans to integrate RTLinux into CodeMaker, an embedded Linux software development tool from AstonLinux. The two companies also announced a Korean market distribution agreement for RTLinux. story
