(Another) new Linux-based PDA is showcased at COMDEX -- Korean manufacturers HNT Ltd. and Hangil Telecom are jointly developing a new Linux-based PDA which will be released in the first quarter of 2002. Embedded Linux wins big in Linux Journal Editors' Choice Awards -- Linux Journal has announced its annual "Editors' Choice" awards, and five of the winners are from the Embedded Linux space, including: best Server Appliance, best Mobile Device, best Embedded Development Tool, best Real-Time Tool, and best Web Site (guess who!). Story

LynuxWorks adds RTLinux to lineup -- LynuxWorks has become a licensee of FSMLabs' RTLinux real-time add-on for Linux. RTLinux will be offered as part of the company's BlueCat Linux product family, and will be called "BlueCat RT". Story

Update to Linux-on-PDAs "Quick Reference Guide" -- LinuxDevices.com has just updated the Linux-PDA and PDA-Linux Quick Reference Guide. Several recently announced Linux PDAs have been added and a number of the earlier listings have been updated. Story

Internet mobility management support for Linux devices -- Lifix Systems has released an Internet mobility management system for devices that run on Linux. Based on the Mobile IP industry standard, Lifix Go! enables users of mobile devices to take their Internet addresses and all open Internet sessions with them wherever they go. Story

New small foot-print Mozilla-based browser supports the iPAQ -- TUXIA announced that Nanozilla, an embedded Browser derived from the open source Mozilla project, is now available for their customizable PIM suite for PDAs based on the Intel StrongARM architecture. According to TUXIA, Nanozilla supports HTML 4.0, JavaScript, Cookies, CSS, XML, XUL, and conforms to W3C Internet Standards. Story

Developer survey finds Linux use strongest outside North America -- When asked which operating system they plan to target with most of their applications next year, international developers show a strikingly more pronounced acceptance of Linux than their North American colleagues, according to a recent survey by Evans Data Corporation. Story

Nat Semi showcases Linux-based Mobile Gateway device -- National Semiconductor demonstrated the Geode Mobile Gateway, a Linux-based wireless Internet access point and personal server in a PDA-size portable footprint, at the recent COMDEX show. The "conceptual device" demonstrated the convergence of broadband mobile communications with personal wireless networks, showing how handheld devices can seamlessly connect to different networks, such as Bluetooth, 802.11, and GSM, as the user moves from place to place. LynuxWorks unveils BlueCat Linux 4.0 -- LynuxWorks has released version 4.0 of their BlueCat Linux distribution and toolkit. The Linux 2.4.x-based kernel and toolchain will initially support several of Intel's embedded processors, including XScale, IXP1200, and IA32. Story

Embedded Linux wins over Windows in weapons tracking research -- Researchers and scientists at Quantum Mechanics say the flexibility of the Linux operating system provided a greater benefit than Windows during the development and testing of a new concealed weapons tracking system. Their research was presented last week at the 5th Annual Linux Showcase & Conference in Oakland, CA. Story
