New website launches Desktop Linux revolution -- DeviceForge LLC, the parent of LinuxDevices.com, is pleased to announce a new family member: DesktopLinux.com -- a major new website exclusively devoted to the use of Linux as a desktop operating system for personal and business purposes. The site features news, opinions, HOWTOs, FAQs, product previews/reviews, product listings, a discussion forum, and links to other web resources, all focused on using -- or learning to use -- Linux as a desktop operating system. Bokks demonstrates Linux-based portable media-player -- For a number of years there has been a big buzz about the convergence of Internet and TV. A newly developed portable broadband box from Blokks AB, initially demoed at CeBIT last March, may be one of the first such products to hit the market. The device, which runs on Embedded Linux, is currently being demonstrated by its maker (in Lund, Sweden), and is expected to hit the market early in 2002. Embedded Linux powers Australian sports wagering device -- SnapGear, Inc. has announced the development of a Linux-based secure embedded appliance for sports and race wagering and fixed-odds sports betting over the Internet and telephone in Australia.
