DeviceForge LLC acquires LinuxDevices.com -- On Monday, Oct. 1, DeviceForge LLC announced that it will acquire the LinuxDevices.com "Embedded Linux Portal" website from CNET Networks, Inc. The two companies have also formed a strategic relationship through which they will continue to share content and provide links to each others' sites. DeviceForge is a new company recently formed by Rick Lehrbaum, the founder of LinuxDevices.com. Story

iPAQ on Linux -- In this entertaining online article from Linux Journal magazine, Jason D. Biggs relates his adventure with getting his iPAQ running again after accidentally trashing its bootloader during an upgrade of its OS with PocketLinux. Biggs' iPAQ adventure takes him to Compaq's Research Laboratory (CRL) in Cambridge, MA, where he gets the device fixed and meets some of the folks who support Linux on the iPAQ. Story

Linux Standard Base aims for single Linux platform -- ZDNet has published an article from the Gartner Group which provides a comprehensive introduction to the Linux Standard Base (LSB). Story

"Rich GUI" device environment supports OSGi -- Designed to be compliant with the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) service platform specification, the latest version of Espial's DeviceTop can receive and execute OSGi service bundles and enhance services in a standard OSGi framework. Story

New reference design for uClinux-based "Web Radios" -- A trio of companies announced their cooperation in developing a high-performance MP3 Internet radio application. NetworkAudio allows access to over 33,000 worldwide Internet radio stations without using a Web browser, and is based on an ARM processor, an "intelligent audio decoder", and a uClinux OS. Story

Announcing a new Linux Certification program -- The Linux System Integration Certification Project announced plans for certifications covering Linux system integration and embedded application development. Certifications are being developed for Master Embedded Linux Architect, Master Linux System Architect, and Linux System Architect. Story

Lab improves Linux kernel patch tests -- The Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) has created a code benchmarking tool -- known as the Scalable Test Platform (STP) -- which lets developers easily test their Linux kernel patches from a variety of tests and server configurations. Story

MIPS picks up another embedded & real-time Linux vendor -- REDSonic announced its entry into the MIPS Alliance Program, in an effort to leverage the success of the popular MIPS32 architecture in the high-growth digital consumer and networking markets. Story

New MIPS-based SOC supports Embedded Linux -- ArTile Microsystems has announced a highly integrated MIPS-based system-on-chip (SOC) processor for multimedia-oriented information appliances. The new chip integrates a multimedia-enhanced RISC core, dual PCI bus, dual Ethernet, dual UARTs, timers, and memory controllers. Story

Red Hat move rekindles real-time Linux debate -- EE Times editor Jeff Child reports on the recent announcement by Red Hat of their support for FSMLabs' RTLinux real-time technology. Child examines the pros and cons of the two alternative approaches to real-time Linux -- the dual-kernel approach and the enhanced Linux kernel approach. Story

Transmeta goes after non-PC chip market -- Transmeta has begun marketing its Crusoe processor to manufacturers of networking equipment, printers, and other "embedded" devices in an effort to achieve critical mass. The company also reportedly will produce integrated system-on-chip versions of the Crusoe. Story
