Report from the 2001 Microprocessor Forum -- LinuxDevices.com's Rick Lehrbaum attended the annual Microprocessor Forum to see what sorts of new "Linux-friendly" embeddable microprocessors were being introduced. There were quite a few new product announcements, all of which seem to claim Embedded Linux support as one of their most important features. Additionally, MIPS announced some upgrades to their popular processor core and Transitive Technologies demonstrated their ability to transport software binaries between ARM, MIPS, x86, and PowerPC CPUs. IBM & Citizen Watch develop Linux-based "WatchPad" -- IBM Research and Citizen Watch have announced a collaboration through which Linux-based "WatchPad" prototypes and related technologies are being developed. ALS Linux conference offers free technical sessions -- In response to an uncertain political climate and the recent economic downturn, free registration is being offered to everyone wishing to attend technical sessions at next month's Annual Linux Showcase & Conference in Oakland, California. Revised patent license for RTLinux now available online -- Version 2 of the Open RTLinux Patent License has now been posted by FSMLabs on their website. FSMLabs had been accused by the Free Software Foundation of violating the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) with the earlier version of their RTLinux patent license. Story

Trolltech Releases Qt 3.0 -- Trolltech is releasing the newest version of Qt, the multi-platform C++ Graphical User Interface Development framework. Qt allows developers to create a single source tree that runs natively on Windows, Linux, Unix, Embedded Linux, and, for the first time, Mac OS X. Qt 3.0 also introduces a number of other new features. Story

New small footprint C-based UPnP stack supports Linux -- Metro Link announced the release of Metro EnableWorks UPnP Software Development Kits (SDKs) supporting the C and C++ programming languages. At just 55KB, the stack includes a full HTTP server, GENA, SOAP, and all other components required for UPnP compliance. Story

GNU Bayonne telephony project hits 7th major milestone -- The Bayonne project announced its 7th major release for developing free-software based telephony application services. Among other things, the new version provides improved support for building digital telephony services and applications by adding support for CAPI based BRI cards. Story

MontaVista ships High Availability Framework -- The High Availability Framework for Hard Hat Linux 2.0 provides a standards-based platform for "service critical" applications with heavy I/O requirements, such as switching equipment, service provider systems, streaming media, and VoIP. Story

REDSonic to release RED-Builder IDE vers. 2.0 XE -- A key new feature is a flexible plug-in framework for board support utilities which includes download setup, a bootloader, and tools for remote debugging and target connection. Story

OnCore announces new cross development suite -- Developers working on systems running Microsoft's Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 can now develop and debug embedded applications for PowerPC and x86 targets based on the OnCore OS and OnCore's real-time Linux solutions. Story
