Red Hat to introduce Embedded Linux Developer Suite -- As part of an announcement from Red Hat regarding the availability of Red Hat Linux version 7.2, the company also disclosed that Red Hat Embedded Linux Developer Suite, a new Embedded Linux toolkit, is being prepared for release sometime in the next few weeks. Lineo releases "GPL compliance toolset" -- Lineo announced the release of their new Embedix GPL Compliance Toolset, which they say "provides protection of intellectual property while leveraging embedded Linux." Story

Sony to release Linux Playstation 2 in U.S. -- According to an article published this week by IDG News Service, a Sony Computer Entertainment executive has stated that Sony is preparing to launch a Linux-enabled version of its PlayStation 2 in the U.S. market. Story

Partnership simplifies embedding Bluetooth in Linux-based devices -- Oki Semiconductor and Adamya Technologies announced a strategic partnership to provide advanced Bluetooth solutions for Linux-based applications. Through a cooperative effort, Oki's Bluetooth chipset will be supported by Adamya's embedded Bluetooth stack. Story

HA Linux + CPCI power next generation DSL gear -- VDSL Systems announced that they are integrating Motorola Computer Group's High Availability Linux into a new line of Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) equipment. The technology provides an effective range of 5,000 feet and speeds of 10 to 23 Mbps. Story

Introducing "Melon" -- a Japanese Linux for the iPAQ -- An interesting new Japanese Linux implementation called "Melon" is now available for the Compaq iPAQ PDA. Melon is based on the "Familiar" project, a GUI from AXE Inc., and Red Hat's RedBoot monitor software. Story

Linux-based system delivers real-time HDTV video over 'net -- Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT) says they have successfully developed the world's first system for delivering 1.5 Gbps volume uncompressed HDTV video data in real time over the Internet. Story

EDC report says Borland Kylix is the leading Linux IDE -- Borland says their Kylix rapid application development (RAD) environment for the Linux platform was rated the most widely used integrated development environment (IDE) by Linux developers, according to a new report from software market researcher Evans Data Corporation. JFFS2 merged into Linus' 2.4.12 kernel -- David Woodhouse, project leader of the Linux Memory Technology Device project, reports that the JFFS2 journaling flash file system has now been included in Linus Torvalds' latest Linux kernels. Story

Insignia Solutions announces beta of J2ME/CDC VM -- Insignia Solutions announced that they have completed a beta implementation of Jeode technology for the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) Connected Device Configuration (CDC) / Foundation Profile, and are actively seeking beta customers.
