FSF challenges RTLinux open patent license
Late last week, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) acused FSMLabs of violating the Linux GPL with its so-called RTLinux open patent license. The dispute has since been resolved, with FSMLabs making "small changes" to their license and both organizations stating that the dispute was largely due to "miscommunication". FreeIO.org releases ColdFire uClinux SBC under GPL
The Toast ColdFire Controller Board is based on a Motorola MCF5307 ColdFire processor, has dual onboard Ethernet NICs, and runs the uClinux version of Embedded Linux. The entire design of the board is available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

New reference design for set-top PVRs uses Embedded Linux
Stream Machine and Sigma Designs announced a complete Personal Video Recorder (PVR) reference design, called "Harmony", which supposedly enables manufacturers to inexpensively add PVR functionality to their advanced set-top box products. The design is based on the two companies' multimedia chips along with Metro Link's "Metro-Media PVR" Linux-based software platform.

Philips & Lineo collaborate on set-top box Linux
The two companies announced a partnership to provide Philips' Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) middleware stack running on Lineo's Embedix Digital Media platform for digital TVs and set-top boxes.

Fujitsu opens up Linux-based humanoid robot
According to this story from ZDNet UK, Fujitsu is poised to release technical details this week of Hoap-1, a humanoid robot that can walk on its own two legs. The 48cm-tall robot weighs 6kg and is said to have been designed "for wide applications in research and development of robotic technologies."
