| Open source foundations team up for Hong Kong conference |

[Updated Nov. 19, 2007] -- The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and the Eclipse Foundation planned to host a summit to reflect the fast growth of the open source movement in Asia. Originally announced for Nov. 26-30, 2007, the show has been postponed to "mid-2008," organizers say.

Billed as the largest open-source gathering yet to be held in Hong Kong and China, OSSummit Asia is the first joint conference between The Apache Software Foundation and the Eclipse Foundation. ASF helps coordinate open-source software projects related to the Apache server and other Apache technologies, and the Eclipse Foundation oversees open-source projects related to the Eclipse platform for cross-vendor tools integration. Eclipse cross-platform development tools are used by nearly every commercial embedded Linux OS and tools supplier.
OSSummit Asia will offer both general sessions and hands-on, certified training classes. The presentations will cover open-source issues such as new technologies, development methods, and marketing and licensing issues, with a special focus on activities in Asia. Topics include various ASF and Eclipse-wide projects, from the Apache HTTP server to the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF), plus discussions of Web Services, Web 2.0, and programming in Java, Perl, Python, Ruby and PHP.
