Lineo ships Embedix RealTime 3.0
Sep. 26, 2000

ESC, San Jose, CA -- (press release excerpt) -- Lineo today announced the shipment of the Embedix RealTime 3.0 installation CD, a real-time development environment of Linux. Embedix RealTime is used for mission-critical applications requiring guaranteed response time in the telecom, military simulation and industrial control markets. Embedix RealTime provides true, hard real-time capabilities for Linux with deterministic, bounded scheduling and interrupt latencies in the tens of microsecond range. This is a key difference from the soft real-time solutions provided by many other Linux vendors.

Features of Embedix RealTime v3.0 include:
  • A modified kernel to support hard real-time functions guaranteeing tasks to be performed within 30 microseconds of when you want them to be performed -- every time, all the time.
  • RealTime Linux debuggers, run-time as well as step & trace.
  • Linux Trace Toolkit for real-time Linux, allowing for graphical analysis.
  • Programmer documentation, examples and additional source code for real-time networking, real-time device driver development and more.
  • Validation with out-of-the-box distributions of Linux such as: Caldera OpenLinux 2.3, Debian 2.1, Mandrake 7.1, RedHat 6.2, and SuSE 6.4.
Embedix SDK 1.2, targeted for shipment in November 2000, will include Embedix RealTime 3.0. Embedix SDK, Lineo's embedded Linux software development kit, assists OEMs in deploying Lineo's embedded Linux technologies across a broad range of platforms and solutions. Embedix SDK reduces system requirements, time-to-market and overall development costs.

The new overlay installation format of Embedix RealTime 3.0 simplifies installation, ensuring that real-time Linux developers can preserve the configuration of their existing development machines without performing a complete system re-install or without having to integrate those system patches which enable the Embedix RealTime services, debug and system analysis tools. For additional information regarding Embedix RealTime, please read the whitepaper on Lineo's Web site.
