Embedded Virtual Machine development tools now online
Feb. 02, 2001

New York; LinuxWorld -- (press release excerpt) -- Insignia Solutions announced today that it will offer its accelerated, Java-compatible Jeode Embedded Virtual Machine (EVM) technologies to design engineers and Linux programming developers on DevelopOnline.com, an online development center designed to accelerate product time to market.

Insignia's partnership with DevelopOnline is part of Insignia's strategy to make the Jeode platform the premier Java-compatible virtual machine solution for Linux-based Internet appliances and embedded devices. DevelopOnline is an Intel spinout company that speeds the creation of handheld devices, set top boxes, network appliances, and other electronic products by providing convenient remote access to proven platforms and new technology from leading providers, all via an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

The Jeode platform is Insignia's accelerated software implementation of Sun Microsystems PersonalJava and EmbeddedJava specifications tailored for Internet appliances and embedded devices. At the core of the Jeode platform is the first independently-developed "Sun Authorized Virtual Machine", the Jeode Embedded Virtual Machine (EVM), an accelerated runtime engine that delivers an optimal balance of performance and responsiveness in a smaller memory footprint. Using a proprietary technique called dynamic adaptive compilation, the Jeode EVM can execute Java applications on average six times faster than interpretive VMs in roughly the same amount of memory.
