The Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) is hosting a congress on open source software in the machine and automation industry. Held on April 22nd during the Hannover Fair in Germany, "Open Source meets Industry" features speakers including Bruce Perens, Thomas Gleixner, and Andrew Morton.

The 21-member OSADL was modeled after the OSDL (Open Source Development Labs), which merged with the Free Standards Group (FSG), to form the Linux Foundation. What the OSDL/LF accomplished for Linux in general, the OSADL aims to do for Linux in automation. Last Fall, members joined together to celebrate their first anniversary (event pictured above).

The one-day program, which will be translated in English and German, features the following speakers:

Thomas Rilke, Director Industrial Automation of the Deutsche Messe AG -- Welcome note
Thomas Gleixner -- Extending the Linux kernel for use in the industry
Alan Cox -- History of Linux and the open source/free software movement
Andrew Morton -- Production process, bug tracking and quality assurance of the Linux kernel
Greg Kroah-Hartmann -- Linux drivers for all hardware on earth
Bruce Perens -- Open Source as a successful business model
Till Jaeger -- Legal aspects of using open source software in business
Carsten Emde, OSADL GM -- We need a "Linux company". Here is one.

OSADL will also be hosting a booth (Hall 17, Booth D04) at the Application Park at the Hannover Fair, from April 21-25. The conference will end with an organized tour of the nearby Application Park, which the group helped to organize with the German Engineering Federation.

Availability

Tickets for the April 22nd event at the Hannover Fair cost 80 Euros plus VAT, including lunch, public transportation access, and tickets to the Fair. More information is available here, and registration is available here.
