LISLE, IL -- (company press release) -- NewMonics, Inc., a leader in the development of portable and platform-independent real-time embedded solutions for the Java language, announced today that its latest release of Embedded PERC 2.2 supports the Linux operating system.
PERC 2.2 builds on the current suite of development and integration software tools and the run-time environment available with PERC 2.1 software, including a PERC Java-compliant virtual machine, compilers, tools, and libraries. Embedded PERC 2.2 is intended to provide a dependable, cost-effective, and efficient product that reduces time-to-market for developers of real-time Java applications in industrial automation, telecommunications, transportation, and consumer electronics.
As a premier real-time embedded solution, the NewMonics' PERC products offer a clean-room implementation of the Java platform with unique memory management capabilities. Embedded PERC 2.2 software includes many features and components that increase functionality, portability and platform-independence in embedded systems. Support of the Linux operating system extends the prowess of the PERC product family into new applications, keeping it abreast of customer needs.

The Embedded PERC 2.2 Product family also includes a set of development and integration tools that simplifies the development of Java applications and increases productivity. Those components include the ROMizer static linking tool, PERCH native method integration tool, QuickPERC just-in-time and flash compiler, Embedded Toolkit component library, and PERC 2.2 libraries. PERC software also supports Intel's VTune Performance Analyzer for profiling Java programs running on Intel processors for efficient, increased performance.
The PERC virtual machine in the PERC 2.2 release is smaller, faster, and more reliable, optimized for the embedded environment. In fact, if the maximum context switch latency times are compared to other embedded virtual machines, the PERC virtual machine is often 1000 times faster. Its efficient use of memory is another advantage positioning the PERC product ahead of other embedded Java solutions. The typical PERC virtual machine and libraries fits in a 256-900-KB ROM and 64-128-KB RAM footprint.
