O'Reilly has published another book about home automation projects. Home Hacking Projects for Geeks presents thirteen home projects involving Linux and Windows PCs, including systems for home automation, entertainment, and security. The book targets computer users of all abilities.

O'Reilly two months ago released Smart Home Hacks, a similar book by Gordon Meyer.

Authors Tony Northrup and Eric Faulkner call Home Hacking Projects for Geekts a "hands-on training kit disguised as a how-to book." The book includes no theory or lab exercises, instead presenting thirteen hands-on projects that teach through example.

Projects include:

Remote pet monitor
Control a home theater
Make your house talk
Remote control for computer MP3 player
Time-shifted FM radio
Home monitoring over a network
Home security system

Each project includes a materials list and a summary of difficulty, time, and project cost.

Northrup and Faulkner said, "No matter what your current skill level is, you can learn from the projects in this book."
