WebLink Wireless, a provider of paging and messaging services in North America, unveiled several new 2-way messaging products at the CTIA show in New Orleans this week. Included among the new messaging devices which are being added to the company's "ReFLEX product suite" is one which uses Linux as its embedded operating system -- the Sun Telecom S-935.

WebLink Wireless says the new ReFLEX devices "will feature a variety of functions such as full PDA capabilities, synching, secure wireless communications between work groups as well as encrypted access to company email and corporate data," and will include one built on "the open Linux platform that provides even more flexibility for enterprise developers who are working on high-end custom applications."

Features of the Sun Telecom S-935 are said to include . . .

Clamshell form-factor
Linux operating system
J2ME support for Java applications, including PIM, custom applications, synch, etc.
Rechargeable battery with one-week battery life
8 MB memory
Encryption/decryption functions

Weblink Wireless says it expects to begin delivering the S-935 to its customers starting in September, 2003 and that the device will be priced in the mid-$200 range.
