M2M specialist opens U.S. office

Connect One has established a U.S. subsidiary, and hired former Jungo VP Udi Yuhjtman to serve as the subsidiary's president. The M2M (machine-to-machine) networking chip and device server specialist hopes to play a "leading role" in the U.S. M2M market currently valued at $25.2 million.

Connect One claims to have shipped more than a million of its iChip IP controller chips, which it says are used in POS terminals, medical devices, security systems, and fleet management terminals in over 50 countries. It recently shipped an iChipSec C0711AG coprocessor chip said to offload the overhead of sending and receiving secure data over 802.11b/g wireless networks using a wide range of Internet protocols.

Yuhjtman will be responsible for creating new markets for iChip technology, building sales and technical support teams, identifying market opportunities, and developing strong relationships with OEMs, M2M integrators, and strategic partners, the company said.

While at Jungo, Yuhjtman founded the company's residential gateway software business unit, known for providing Linux-based stacks to the likes of LinkSys. Yuhjtman also "established relationships" between Jungo and Intel, Freescale, Cisco, Broadcom, Dell, Belkin, and Netgear, Connect One said.

Prior to joining Jungo in 2000, Udi spent 10 years at Chip Express, where in his last position as vice president of engineering he managed all prototyping activities, engineering services and customer support, and approved the design and production of over 1,000 ASICs, Connect One said.

Amir Friedman, CEO, stated, "Udi's experience with the development and marketing of communication software and ASICs ensures that he understands customer needs and will be able to establish a foothold for Connect One in emerging growth markets."

Connect One's new office is located in San Jose, Calif. The company will display various products at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, April 3-5.
