  • Intel embeds Linux in home digital media adapter -- Intel unveiled a new 'home media gateway' reference design based on a PXA210 XScale processor running an embedded Linux OS. The device is expected to be manufactured by multiple consumer electronics manufacturers in Asia, and will enable the distribution of PC digital media to TVs and stereos throughout the home.

  • Intel brings MMX technology to XScale apps -- Intel Wireless MMX technology is an advanced set of multimedia instructions taken in large part from the IA-32 architecture, helping to enable developers to bring the power of a proven multimedia architecture to applications based on the Intel XScale microarchitecture. For Embedded Linux, the technology is being supported by MontaVista and Lineo.

  • Broadband security gateway solution supports Intel IXP425 NP, Linux -- Intoto announced availability of a broadband security gateway solution based on the Intel IXP425 network processor; it supports embedded Linux and provides complete ICSA certified Firewall and VPN functionality on the Intel IXP425 network processor development platform.

  • Intel unveils telecom 'control plane' processors -- ZDNet reports on Intel's new IXC1100, a system-on-chip processor that reportedly enables more powerful and space-efficient computers to be created for telecommunications networks.

  • Intel Accelerates The Delivery Of The Digital Home With The Extended Wireless PC Initiative -- Intel announced an initiative that will aid distribution of digital media throughout the home. The Extended Wireless PC Initiative, the first step in delivering on the Digital Home vision, will provide key building blocks and toolkits to the developer community, allowing them to easily and seamlessly distribute PC digital media to TVs and stereos throughout the consumer's home.

  • Intel invests in NetBSD provider Wasabi -- Wasabi Systems, the leading commercial provider of the NetBSD operating system for embedded applications, today announced an equity investment from Intel Capital. The funding will be used, in part, to develop storage and networking products in collaboration with Intel.

  • New reference design supports Intel IXP2800 NP running Linux -- GDA Technologies Inc. is developing an Intel IXP2800-based reference design platform with diagnostics, Embedded Linux software and Microcode framework for key applications. The reference design will initially be available on a PCI/PCIX form-factor card which includes 32MB of Flash, 128MB of RDRAM, plus a Gigabit Ethernet port, an RS232 port, and one 10/100 Ethernet port.

  • LynuxWorks announces LynxOS support for Intel IOP310 I/O processor -- LynuxWorks announced the availability of the LynxOS real-time operating system for the Intel IOP310 I/O processor chipset based on the Intel XScale technology.

  • Intel IOP321 I/O processor now supported by MontaVista Linux -- MontaVista Software announced immediate availability of the MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 2.1 development environment for the Intel IOP321 I/O processor.

  • Royal Philips unveils Linux-based multimedia gadget reference platform -- Royal Philips Electronics announced a new digital multimedia reference platform based on Intel's PXA250 XScale architecture processors. The 'Pronto++ Software & Systems' platform, which is intended to help developers create next-generation interactive digital audio and video devices, consists of reference hardware, a complete stack of enabling software, and multimedia services.

  • XScale development platforms gain Linux support -- TimeSys and ADI Engineering will provide end-to-end embedded Linux solutions for the design, development, and rapid deployment of next generation data communications, networking, and high-performance embedded applications of the Intel XScale microarchitecture. The ADI platforms offer a combination of dual Ethernet ports, PCI and PMC expansion slots, and unmatched sustained memory bandwidth.

  • Linux-based residential gateway solution supports Intel IXP425 NP -- Jungo Software Technologies announced availability of its OpenRG software for the Intel IXP425 network processor family, to speed development of advanced integrated access devices (IAD), routers, and residential and SOHO gateways.

  • New XScale telecom 'control plane' SOC gains Linux support -- MontaVista Software announced plans to support Intel's new IXC1100 control plane processor, a highly integrated system-on-a-chip designed for use in next-generation telecommunication equipment such as multi-service switches, VoIP media gateways, and wireless infrastructure.
