The Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) announced the appointment of its first full-time Chief Executive Officer. Stuart F. Cohen, the new OSDL CEO, said his top objectives will be to: accelerate the use of Linux and Linux-based applications; increase the number of sponsors and attract new Global 2000 corporations to join OSDL; and continue and expand OSDL's leadership role in championing Linux-based development projects for business-critical applications.

Prior to joining OSDL, Cohen served as a corporate officer at RadiSys in the role of VP of marketing and business development, with a focus on strategic partnerships. His industry experience also includes 17 years at IBM, where he held worldwide sales and marketing positions in IBM's personal computer and networking divisions.

In conjunction with the announcement of its new CEO, OSDL cited research from market analyst IDC which forecasts Linux to be the fastest growing category in operating system environment revenue over the next five years, with a projected compound annual growth rate of 28 percent.

The OSDL was founded in 2000. Its members currently include Alcatel, Cisco, Computer Associates, Dell, Ericsson, Force Computers, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, IBM, Intel, Linuxcare, Miracle Linux Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric, MontaVista Software, NEC Corporation, Nokia, Red Hat, SuSE, Toshiba, and VA Software.
