SDG Systems, LLC (Cranberry Township, PA) today announced two new options for the Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA: the AerLink NPC, a high-speed data connection cable that connects the Zaurus to a cellular handset; and MobiliScan HS, a bar code scanning CompactFlash attachment.

AerLink NPC -- The AerLink NPC is a high-speed data connection cable that connects the Zaurus to a cellular handset. The AerLink NPC goes well beyond the distance limitations of BlueTooth and 802.11 networks, providing access to e-mail and the Internet in most areas where you can make a cellular call. The AerLink NPC supports many popular cellular handsets along with high-speed cellular data technologies, such as 1xRTT and GPRS. Before the AerLink NPC, wide area connections were often limited to using slower technologies, such as CDPD, or using an inconvenient infrared connection to a cellular handset. The AerLink NPC utilizes the Zaurus' CompactFlash slot and communicates to the cellular handset using a high-speed serial connection. Data rates range from 9.6Kbps, using older data technologies, to 144Kbps bursts, using high-speed data technologies.
MobiliScan HS -- The MobiliScan HS provides a high level of functionality, convenience and portability for data collection. The combination of this functionality with the Linux operating system allows users to seemlessly integrate data collection and processing with their database systems. The MobiliScan HS software provides keyboard emulation, permitting the use of bar code scanning with any graphical or text application. The software includes a graphical configuration program permitting the user to configure bar code prefix, suffix, symbologies, check digits, redundancy, and other scanning parameters. The MobiliScan HS is available with either a Class 1 or Class 2 laser in a Type I CompactFlash package.

The AerLink NPC is priced at $99, while the MobiliScan HS is priced at $429 for the Class 1 scanner and $459 for the Class 2 scanner.
