Real-time multi-core x86 Linux specialist Concurrent has ported its development tool suite to Ubuntu development hosts. NightStar LX for Ubuntu comprises a suite of graphical development and debugging tools aimed at multi-processor, multi-threaded, real-time application and kernel development.

As with the Red Hat and SUSE versions, NightStar for Ubuntu will include an integrated Qt-based GUI tool-set for developing and tuning X86-based time-critical applications. NightStar LX includes the NightView source-level debugger, the NightTrace event analyzer, the NightProbe data monitor, and the NightTune system and application tuner.

NightStar tools run with minimal intrusion, say Concurrent, thereby preserving application execution behavior and determinism. The tools are said to enable the debugging of multiple processes from a single session from script-launched processes, and to support hot-patching.

Concurrent is best known for supplying Linux-based workstations and servers to government, military, and financial services markets. Its systems typically run a version of Red Hat or SUSE enhanced with processor sheilding technology, for "real-time" performance on multi-core x86-compatible systems.

Stated Concurrent marketing director Gary Beerman, "Developing modern multi-threaded Linux applications on multi-core architectures requires powerful debugging tools. With NightStar, Linux application engineers have exceptional visibility and control in both the development and production environment."

Availability

NightStar for Ubuntu Linux will be available on March 1, says Concurrent. NightStar LX tools packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux are available now, with prices ranging from to $495 to $995.
