| Lineo joins Consumer Electronics Linux Forum |

Lineo Solutions Inc., a Japan-based provider of embedded Linux software, announced today that it has been accepted for membership in the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF), an industry organization founded by leading consumer electronics device manufacturers in July 2003 to implement and enhance Linux for consumer electronics devices.
"We have prided ourselves on being one of the pioneers in the world in adapting Linux to embedded applications. Lineo is able to make specific contributions toward the realization of [the] ubiquitous network age together with major global companies in the industry," said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, Lineo CEO.
"For the past 19 years, Lineo has developed and fostered [the] advanced technologies front and accumulated experiences in embedded products development by working with Japanese OEMs. [With our unique qualifications as a Japan-based embedded Linux vendor] we will actively be involved to develop and support Linux that reflect specification by CELF, promote activities of CELF," said Tatsuya Takeuchi, CTO.
Lineo Solutions Japan traces its roots back to 1984, according to the company's history Web page, when the company was founded as United Systems Engineers (USE). USE was acquired by Utah-based Lineo Inc. in 1999, becoming Lineo Japan. When Lineo reincorporated as Embedix Inc. in 2002, Lineo Japan became a subsidiary of Embedix. Shortly thereafter, though, co-founder Yoshinobu Ushiyama and Lineo employees bought out Lineo Japan from Embedix, changing the name to Lineo Solutions in Feb. 2003. The company initially used "Lineo uSolutions" as the English version of its name, but recently modified that to "Lineo Solutions."
In June 2003, Lineo released "Lineo uLinux," which it claims offers compact footprint, quick boot, power-saving, real-time capabilities, enhanced memory management, and more. Lineo aims uLinux at consumer electronics, communication, and control applications.
In July 2003, Lineo began shipping "Lineo uLinux ELITE," a powerful integrated cross-development environment for consumer electronics devices, including digital appliances and PDAs.
