Trolltech has announced that on Nov. 1, company co-founder and co-CEO of 13 years Eirik Chambe-Eng will reduce his involvement due to eyesight difficulties. Current co-CEO Haavard Nord will serve as sole CEO, while Trolltech will commence searching for a suitable COO (chief operations officer).

Chambe-Eng commented, "I have recently been diagnosed with a condition called AMD (age-related macular degeneration) which impairs my eyesight. Although I am able to function at close to 100 percent at present, the stress and workload associated with being CEO of a public company [are] not compatible with this condition."

Chambe-Eng will remain involved with the company, advising on "strategies, culture, and other critical aspects," Trolltech said. He expects to be able to contribute at "80 percent of a full time workload."

Nord stated, "Over the past thirteen years Eirik has made countless contributions to Trolltech's growth and success. I am extremely grateful that he will be able to continue contributing."

The news came at Trolltech's Developer Day today in Santa Clara, where Trolltech also announced an effort to port its Qt Core product to Windows embedded operating systems, and an effort to incorporate the KDE project's Webkit rendering engine into its Qtopia vertical market stacks; more details on those announcements to follow.
