| Tiny computer module runs Linux on Geode LX800 |

CompuLab has introduced a 2.7 x 2.3-inch computer-on-module (COM) based on a 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 processor. In addition to its x86-compatible processor, the CM-iGLX integrates display, disk, USB, and networking controllers, and boasts fanless operation over an extended temperature range.
 (Click each image to enlarge) CompuLab claims that the CM-iGLX is the "smallest Geode LX-based PC-on-module." It targets mobile, industrial, and harsh-environment applications, the company says. The company notes that the module's standardized CAMI ("CompuLab's Aggregated Module Interface") interface connectors enable interchangeability with other of CompuLab's COM modules.
The module's key features and specifications are said to include: - Processor -- 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 with 256KB cache
- RAM -- 256 MB DDR
- Flash -- onboard 128MB to 512MB NAND flash
- ATA100 hard drive interface
- Video -- controller for up to 1920 x 1440 x 32 bpp @ 85Hz, compatible with LCD and FPM displays

- 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port
- Phillips UCB1400 audio codec, with speaker and microphone support
- 3 x host USB-2 ports (provide keyboard/mouse support)
- 2 x serial ports
- GPIO -- 4 dedicated and 4 shared lines
- General purpose bus and optional PCI, LPC, AC97 busses
- Encryption unit -- 128-bit DMA-based crypto acceleration
- Size -- 2.7 x 2.3 inches (68 x 58 mm)
- Interchangeable with other CompuLab modules via "CAMI" connectors
Linux support
CompuLab offers extensive ready-to-run Linux support for its computer-on-module products, including the CM-iGLX, including OS images that can be loaded directly into the onboard "flash disk." The Linux support package includes 2.4 and 2.6 series kernels, patches, standard utilities (gzip, gunzip, tar, etc.), bash shell, flash disk drivers, drivers for all other peripherals available on the module, networking support (FTP, samba, telnet/ssh), and X-windows, according to the company.
In addition to Linux, the module supports Windows XP/XPe and Windows CE, CompuLab says.
Availability
The CM-iGLX is shipping now, priced around $120 in OEM quantities of 1,000 units, according to CompuLab. Small quantity pricing was not disclosed.
The module is optionally available in an extended temperature version that supports -40 to +85 degrees C..
