ETRAX 100LX high-integration RISC system-on-chip

Designed to meet demands for low cost, easy implementation, and superior network performance, the ETRAX 100LX is Axis' sixth-generation optimized system-on-a-chip solution for putting peripherals directly on the network. Applications include networked cameras, wireless gateways, printers, and network-attached storage.

The ETRAX 100LX includes -- within the single system-on-chip device -- a 100 MIPS 32-bit RISC processor plus on-chip controllers for 10/100 megabit Ethernet, four high speed serial ports, two USB ports for both host and device, IDE, SCSI, and two IEEE-1284 "fast" parallel ports. The device comes in a 256-pin Plastic Ball Grid Array package and uses 350 mW power (typical).

The ETRAX 100LX was developed using 0.35µm ASIC technology, giving it one of the best price/performance ratios available today. It is a member of the ETRAX RISC chip family with more than 2 million units shipped, making it one of the most widely used network-attached architecture.

The ETRAX 100LX runs the standard 2.4 Linux kernel and Axis provides a tested distribution with associated software components in the SDK available from the Axis developer website.

A developer board for ETRAX 100LX is also available from the Axis developer website.

    • 2 8-bit timers with programmable clock

    • 4 high speed asynchronous serial ports
    • 2 high speed synchronous serial ports
    • 2 USB 1.1 Host/Device ports

    • SCSI: Initiator (host) mode controller, supports synchronous, asynchronous, SCSI-3, Fast-20, ...
    • EIDE/ATA-2 ports: configurable for up to 4 (multiplexed with pins for SCSI, parallel port, and 2 serial ports)
    • Two 8-bit general purpose I/O ports with configurable pins

  • Bootstrap program download: support for initial loading to internal cache memory from parallel port, serial port, and network; code, loaded to cache, can be designed to enable download of program to initially empty Flash PROM or other external memory.
