At just 12 square inches (see photo), Elf packs complete PDA functionality with extended peripheral support and is designed for OEM developers of handheld devices who need the ultimate in peripheral connectivity.

Elf is the only handheld platform with up to two PCMCIA sockets. Wireless networking, mass storage, and data acquisition peripherals are just some of the many PCMCIA cards that you can use, and with two sockets, you can create unique combinations for your handheld. Add a Flash card and a data acquisition card to create a portable data logger. Hot swap the Flash card for a wireless card and you now have a remote distributed logger.

Elf's novel daughtercard interface (Elf Bus) extends the peripheral concept even further. The Elf Bus connector includes an 8-bit parallel interface for direct connection to DSP chips, as well as several serial interfaces, and programmable I/Os. Now, when you need to add your own custom hardware to the Elf, you have an interface that gives you everything you need, with your Elf-based handheld designs limited only by your imagination.

The Elf has been designed to give OEMs the choice of tightly wrapping packaging around the onboard peripherals or of cabling to off-board peripherals for packaging in a variety of COTS boxes. InHand offers full 3D CAD models of its products to aid designers in their own packaging concepts -- as well as offers partnering support for full product development.
