FSMLabs is proud to offer Open RTLinux v3.0, a hard real-time OS offering the following features:
  • Standard API -- FSMLabs RTLinux uses a POSIX
    threads API and follows the POSIX 1003.13 PSE51 "minimal real-time system model" specification. RTLinux runs Linux as its lowest priority-thread and provides access to the full power of Linux through a variety of communication methods.

  • Deterministic real-time -- Worst case interrupt latency of 15 microseconds on a standard x86 PC. Better on single board computers, as well as PowerPC and Compaq Alpha platforms. (Ports to other platforms are in progress.) Don't be misled: "Worst case" interrupt latency is not the same as "typical."

  • Open source -- Open RTLinux is released under the GNU GPL v2 and the Open RTLinux Patent License, but applications and drivers running on RTLinux are not obligated to follow the GPL. FSMLabs will also sell non-GPL licenses to customers who wish to protect proprietary changes to RTLinux code.

  • Rich toolset -- All the standard tools -- including the GDB source level debugger, GNU compilers, Perl, TCL/TK, etc. -- are available and easily interfaced with real-time code. In addition, there is a growing list of RTLinux-specific open source tools: from the powerful RTiC instrumentation lab to the CarbonKernel RTLinux simulation for prototyping and validation. There are also numerous vendors of non-open source RTLinux-specific code. Available software includes the CAD-UL RTLinux debugger and Quanser's MatLab/Simulink tool for generating RTLinux controllers from MatLab
    equations.

  • Reliable real-time (RT) programming model -- The traditional method of mixing RT and non-RT code leads to unmaintainable systems, with errors that are hard to detect but that can have catastrophic effects on operation. To prevent this, RT applications should be written as small, verifiable, pure RT components that can be used as modular parts of larger systems. RTLinux enforces this process by decoupling RT and non-RT code. The critical real-time components in the operating system and in applications are given absolute priority and can never be delayed by non-RT components.

With years of experience with Linux and RTLinux, we are not simply repackaging a system made by someone else and hoping that problems in the code can be fixed by someone on the Internet.

The Open RTLinux v3.0 CD is available for purchase. Based on Red Hat 6.2 for x86 processors, the CD contains the RTLinux hard real-time kernel, the floppy disk-sized MiniRTL (for small footprint embedded applications), and the RTIC Lab real-time graphical interface, as well as a complete Linux distribution. In addition to standard manpage documentation, the CD also comes with a printed installation guide, an online quick start guide and ready-to-compile example programs to get users rolling. The cost of the Open RTLinux v3.0 CD is US$150.00 which includes 30 days email installation support.
